Seasoned actress Sunshine Cruz recently shared why she decided to part ways with her ex-boyfriend Macky Mathay five days before their sixth anniversary.

In an interview with veteran news anchor Karen Davila, the actress said she wanted to “level up” her relationship with him. But that did not happen, resulting in their breakup.

Sunshine and Macky separated late last year. Speculations about their breakup became a hot topic on social media after netizens found out they unfollowed each other on Instagram.

The 45-year-old actress recalled how she and her ex-boyfriend became a couple in 2016.

“Sa totoo lang, pagdating din naman [sa relationship ko kay] Macky, hindi ko siya hinintay. That time, magfo-four years na akong hiwalay kay Cesar. I was too focused on my children and work. I gave him a chance and no regrets naman. He was a good guy,” she shared.

When asked why she decided to call their relationship quits, Sunshine admitted that she did not see their relationship of almost six years going to the next level.

“Nakita ko lang na hindi na nagle-level up ‘yung relationship. Hindi nagmu-move. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good guy. I love his children pero syempre at this point in my life––I’m 45—naghahanap na tayo ng relationship na kahit papaano ay lume-level up. Hindi 'yung derecho lang. Kasi mag si-six years na kami [ni Macky] parang ganyan lang kami,” she admitted.

Sunshine also revealed in the same interview that she broke up with Macky through a text message, saying she was at a lock-in taping at the time.

“Five days bago mag-sixth anniversary kami, nakipaghiwalay ako [kay Macky]. Nakalock-in taping pa yon—through message. I said na, ‘I don’t think may patutunguhan pa itong relationship so…,'” she narrated.

Though she opted not to go into details about what she meant by "leveling up," the actress clarified that she isn't looking for someone to marry but rather a partner whom she could spend the rest of her life with.

“Sa totoo lang ayoko na eh, ayoko naman na. I’m okay na with a life partner. Yung pagpapakasal, sa ngayon hindi ko naiisip––maybe when I turn 60 or 70 parang si tita Boots Anson-Roa. Who knows diba? Pero hindi talaga natin pwede ipilit eh if it’s really not for you, it’s not for you,” she said.

Despite her breakup with Macky, she confessed that she isn't closing her doors to new beginnings and that she is looking forward to being in a new relationship. Sunshine also said that she isn’t forcing anything into her life right now.

“Ang sarap magmahal. Ang sarap kiligin. Ang sarap ng may inspirasyon. So kung may dumating para sa akin, bakit hindi? Lahat naman tayo may karapatan mahalin at magmahal,” she ended.
