When Taylor Swift announced the additional dates for her widely successful “Eras Tour” on Wednesday, June 21, several fans — particularly those from Asia — rejoiced over the news.

Well, for a short amount of time that is. If you live in either Singapore or Japan (where she will hold three shows, respectively) or if you’re someone who can afford to fly to see her show abroad, you most probably did.

It wasn’t the case for most Swifties in other East and Southeast Asian nations who have been eagerly waiting to see her in the flesh and sing along with her hits. After all, this is her first tour since the pandemic. It can be recalled that she made a stop in Japan for her Reputation tour just months before the pandemic hit.

But just like before, Taylor appeared to have skipped the Philippines for her upcoming tour. While that could still relatively change considering there are still dates to be filled, there’s no assurance that the Philippines will be included. One fan on TikTok even went viral after she claimed that Taylor will most likely add more shows in Singapore to accommodate more fans in Southeast Asia, citing a “bidding war” that the Singapore Tourism Board supposedly won.

TikTok user @aihalz claimed that the Singapore Tourism Board supporting Taylor’s show meant they did whatever it takes to monopolize Taylor’s shows since the government supposedly knows it could attract tourists across Southeast Asia which, in turn, could generate revenues.

@aihalz I'm not saying this is a fact, and that its a guarantee that no other show stops will be added to SEA, but Taylor's shows are government BACKED and that's a big deal for a commercial production. International fans who flock here will not only spend money on this concert, but for other tourists-related services. It's all part of the plan and credit goes to sg gov I guess??? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ #taylorswiftsg #erastour #theerastoursingapore #erastoursingapore ♬ original sound - aidah ai guess

While many Filipino Swifties pointed out that a lot of fans still won’t be able to see her show live due to ticket prices which will most likely be expensive, some argued there are definitely a lot who can afford to see her live. Others said there’s no venue that could accommodate the stage for her “Eras Tour,” but for some, the New Clark City Stadium in Capas, Tarlac could be the perfect alternative. Either way, it really isn’t over until it’s over.

Taylor seemingly skipping Manila for her “Eras Tour” left thousands of Filipino fans dismayed — and rightly so. After all, Taylor’s last visit to the Philippines was nearly a decade ago already. It was in 2014 when she made a stop in the country for the Manila leg of her “Red Tour.” She performed at the Mall of Asia Arena at that time.

But did you know that Kris Aquino — arguably one of the biggest Filipino celebrity fans of Taylor Swift — once tried to bring the American singer-songwriter to the country?

Amid all the debates on Taylor’s shows in Manila, one fan unearthed a tweet that showed a screenshot of Kris’s response to a fan who asked her to join the petition to bring Reputation to Manila.

“@krisaquino, patulong po sa pagtweet sa Twitter ng #WeNeedRepTourMNL. Salamat po,” the fan wrote.

According to Kris, she talked to her concert producer friends and asked them if she could invest in them to bring Taylor's Reputation tour to the Philippines.

“@taylorswiftismyreputation I am ilusyonada - I already asked several friends who produce concerts if I could invest to bring Taylor Swift to the [Philippines]," Kris said.

But Kris revealed that her concert producer friends told her it was impossible at that time, saying: "I was told the cost is SUPER high because of the mounting of the 3 stages & because of the [Philippine Peso] having weakened."

Apart from the tweet, a video of Kris sharing with Angeline Quinto in of her videos how far she would go to see Taylor perform in Japan live also made rounds online.

Kris Aquino is currently in the US undergoing treatment for her autoimmune diseases.

As for Taylor Swift’s show in the Philippines, Filipino Swifties can only hope for the best.
