Eugene Domingo and her Italian fiancé Danilo Bottoni opened up about their love story.

In an interview with Karen Davila on YouTube, the couple shared that they first met at the Udine Far East Film Festival in Italy in 2014.

Eugene's film Barber's Tales was an entry in the festival at that time. Danilo, on the other hand, was a film critic.

But for Eugene, finding love in her 40s was something that she did not see happening anymore before meeting Danilo.

"At 45 sabi ko parang di na tayo kabataan, parang unti-unti ko nang naa-accept. Tsaka unti-unti na rin akong medyo napapagod nun. Nag-hit 'yung Kimmy Dora, nagsunod-sunod na ako Karen," Eugene shared.

"So, naramdaman ko mga after 6 years, 7 years, na parang tumodo naman ako. In a year 6 movies alam mo 'yun, na gusto ko kasi siyempre lahat ng opportunities take advantage mo 'yun para makaipon ka and then ang sarap ng feeling nun," she added.

Eugene then realized that she did not want to be alone and that she was longing for a partner.

"I don't want to be alone. Ayaw kong mag-isa. I am very domesticated, I realized. I can be alone at some point pero mas masaya for me when I'm together with a partner that I can feel that I feel a connection with," she shared.

However, Eugene felt that it was already impossible to find a partner at her age so she was already set on entering a convent.

But when she went to Italy for the Udine Far East Film Festival to represent the film Barber's Tales in 2014, she unexpectedly met Danilo.

Danilo described their love story as a gradual process that began in Italy and evolved into long-distance dating on Skype.

"It was a slow process because we started talking every week on Skype for two to three hours I think and then we met again in Italy just the two of us in a very nice place in the place where my mother lives," Danilo said.

Danilo also proposed to Eugene via Skype.

"Finding him is really a miracle and the miracle is from God," Eugene remarked.
