Renowned Filipino furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue has been honored with the Pratt Legends award in New York.

The Pratt Institute ranks among the top 10 art and design schools globally. Kenneth achieved summa cum laude honors upon graduating from Pratt in 1991.

Kenneth is the first Asian Pratt Legend. "Be passionate about what you do and make it better while remaining true to yourself. Never stop learning," he said in his message as he received the award.

The Filipino furniture designer was honored with the Pratt Legend award alongside architect Edward Mazria and artist Kay WalkingStick.

Fans and celebrity friends of Kenneth were quick to extend their congratulatory messages after achieving this new milestone in his career.

"Congratulations Kenneth. Always a pride of the Filipinos and the Philippines," one fan commented.

The Legends Awards honor accomplished individuals and corporations in the realm of art and design, recognizing their noteworthy contributions that align with the values and principles advocated by Pratt Institute of New York.

Additionally, Legends strives to raise funds for financial aid to Pratt students and promote diversity, playing a crucial role in shaping the future of creative talents.

Establishing his own brand in 1998, Kenneth has expanded it to include over 300 employees and craftsmen situated in Cebu, supported by global offices and showrooms.

His designs have garnered him global recognition including the Good Design Award and Design for Asia Award. TIME magazine has also acknowledged him as the "great virtuoso of rattan."

In September 2022, Kenneth received the Gawad sa Sining Award 2020, which is the highest honor given by the Cultural Center of the Philippines for his contributions to the Philippine arts and culture scene.

In a recent interview with Tatler Asia, Kenneth shared his plans for the future.

"We are continually expanding the brand in Europe and Asia and returning to the international show circuit. I am also going into limited-edition collectables and art. One of them is a fascinating project to create limited edition figures of Filipino myths and legends called ALAMAT," he shared.

The designer continued: "Inspired by stories passed from our ancestors to us, these characters form part of our heritage and tradition and must be retold today. We are also continually adding products to our online site called kcurated.ph with gift items I designed or chose."
