Patrick Dempsey has been named by PEOPLE as this year’s Sexiest Man Alive.

The Grey’s Anatomy actor takes over the title from Captain America actor Chris Evans who topped the list in 2022.

In an interview with the magazine, Patrick shared that he is “glad it’s happening at this point in his life.”

“It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive.”

The 57-year-old actor was “completely shocked” when he first heard the news.

“I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right? I’ve always been the bridesmaid for Sexiest Man Alive,” he added, referring to multiple times he made the list but failed to get the top spot.

“I’d completely forgotten about it and never even contemplated being in this position. So, my ego is good.”

The Ferrari star also shared how he thinks his kids will respond to his new status.

“They’re just going to make fun of me and pick on me and figure out every reason why I shouldn’t be. Which is good, they keep me young.”

The actor’s wife, makeup artist and founder of her own clean beauty line Jillian Dempsey, showed some love for her husband by posting a video of him.

She captioned the post with: “Well, the cat’s out of the bag for 2023 @people’s #SexiestManAlive and my hubz is on the cover! Loved being a part of this insanely fun ride with you @patrickdempsey. What a title! You truly are my sexiest man alive - 🫶”

She also shared a post of her husband while doing his makeup and sharing how “they torture him a bit around their house” by teasing him with his new title.

Jillian said, “What a title! Very cool @patrickdempsey & well deserved, sexy! We may torture you a bit around the house about this one 😁 - already making t-shirts. Congrats! 🙌”

In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Patrick talked about the Dempsey Center, a center he founded in honor of his late mom to support cancer patients and their loved ones.

When asked if he actually walks around the center pretending to be a doctor, just like his role in the hit series, the Grey’s Anatomy alum said, “Sometimes, depending if someone is getting treated in the hospital, I will go do that and it surprises everybody. So, that’s fine.”

Patrick also shared in PEOPLE magazine’s exclusive interview how he loves cars and racing, making his role in the biopic Ferrari a memorable one.

“I’ve been tracking this movie for years,” he added. “I wanna be a part of it. I love the script. I love this period. I love Michael Mann as the director. And I picked up the phone and I called ‘Look, I want a meeting with you. I would like to come in and discuss being a part of this movie.’”

The actor also shared how he values staying active and how he loves his family and supports them in what they are doing.

He said, “I just tried to be a better person every day, you know? And tried to be present if I can and be there and to listen of what the needs of our family and be able to provide.”

He was then asked about his happiest memories. The actor jokingly responded, “This moment right now.”

Actors such as Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Johnny Depp, and Richard Gere were selected twice for the title.
