Jean Garcia revealed that her daughter Jennica Garcia was the reason she said yes to doing Pangako Sa 'Yo.

In an interview with Karen Davila, Jean shared that she was working in Japan at the time when the role of Claudia Buenavista in the original Pangako Sa 'Yo was offered to her.

"'Yung Pangako Sa 'Yo nung [inoffer] sa akin 'yan, year 2000. Tinawagan nila ako sa Japan asking me to go back to do a serye. So siyempre interesado ako kasi na-miss ko eh. Dalawang taon mahigit eh, eh walang work [sa showbiz] kaya nag-trabaho ako sa Japan," she said.

But Jean said that she was torn about returning to showbiz or continue working in Japan that time because she would be earning more if she stayed overseas.

"Honestly nung time na 'yun mas malaki ang kikitain ko sa Japan kaysa kikitain ko as artista dito nung year 2000. Nung pagkatapos namin mag-meeting ni Ms. Rory Quintos (series director) and ni tita Malou Santos pauwi na ako, nagdasal ako sabi ko 'Lord bigyan mo ako ng sign kasi medyo nagdadalawang isip ako.' Confused ako, di ko alam, 50-50. Eh gusto nila  kumbaga binigyan nila ako ng 48 hours kung tatanggapin ko o hindi 'yung Pangako Sa 'Yo as Madam Claudia," she shared.

When she went home, Jennica, who was around 12 years old that time, asked her if she would do the teleserye.

"So paguwi ko, alam [ni Jennica] na meron akong meeting para dun [sa Pangako Sa 'Yo] so excited siya, gusto niya mag-stay ako. [Sabi niya 'Mama, ano what happened?' [Sabi ko], 'Sabi nila may promise naman sila na kumbaga makikila ulit 'yung  name ko parang ganyan, kaya lang, honey, kung ikukumpara mo, ito lang kasi 'yung kikitain ko dito pero sa Japan kasi ito 'yung kinikita ko so what do you think? Anong tingin mo?" she said.

Jean shared that it was Jennica who convinced her to stay in the Philippines and do the series.

"Sabi niya, 'Mama it doesn't matter. Basta nandito ka. Tanggapin mo kasi gusto  kitang kasama.' Tinanggap ko tapos naging very successful tapos masaya pa 'yung anak ko. So win-win kumbaga. Tama, ito 'yung destiny," she stated.
