South Korean singer-actor D.O. is set to leave his longtime entertainment agency, SM Entertainment, this November. The EXO member has established his own company to manage his individual activities both as a singer and as an actor.

SM Entertainment maintained that D.O. will still be part of EXO despite leaving the company.

In a statement released by SM Entertainment to various South Korean outlets, it was revealed that D.O.’s new company will be handled by his longtime manager, Nam Kyung-soo.

“D.O.’s exclusive contract with us will expire in early November. Following thorough discussions with D.O., it has been decided that he will continue his EXO activities with SM, but will proceed with his acting and individual activities through the newly established agency founded by his and SM’s former manager,” the statement said.

The 30-year-old singer-actor has been with SM Entertainment since his debut with South Korean boy group EXO in 2012. Since then, he has released various songs––both in groups and individually.

It was only last September wherein he released his second E.P., Expectation, which became a commercial success in South Korea and globally with the single “Somebody.”

D.O. has also been active in the acting scene as he starred in various series and films such as 100 Days My Prince, Bad Prosecutor, The Moon, Swing Kids, and My Annoying Brother, to name a few.

Prior to D.O.’s departure from SM Entertainment, his fellow bandmates Chanyeol and Sehun were reported to leave the agency as well. Various South Korean media outlets reported that the duo had already signed an exclusive contract with a new agency.

This was immediately denied by SM Entertainment who stated that EXO members except for D.O. have a valid contract with them.

“However, in regards to the members’ individual activities, we have conditionally allowed them to proceed through their own established companies if they wish, within the terms of their existing exclusive contracts with SM,” the statement added.
