Miss Universe 2022 R’Bonney Gabriel got to experience what every ensaymada lover could only wish for: an ensaymada buffet.

ABS-CBN lifestyle and sports reporter Dyan Castillejo, who got the chance to do a sitdown interview with R’Bonney Gabriel, shared a video of her surprising the Filipino-American beauty queen with a table full of ensaymada.

R’Bonney previously revealed in an interview with Thai TV network JKN18 that the first thing she would do after bringing home the crown was to take four hours of sleep and eat her favorite Filipino treat, ensaymada.

“First thing I would like to do is sleep more than four hours, and then eat some ensaymada – that’s my favorite Filipino treat – and I would love to give my family and friends a hug, and just thank them so much for getting me here,” she said in her interview.

A week later, Dyan Castillejo surprised her with different kinds of ensaymada, torta, and mamon. They were flown from different parts of the US including California and New York. Some came from the Philippine capital of Manila.

“R’Bonney Gabriel's reaction when she saw the ensaymada buffet we brought her! super enjoyed it,” Dyan wrote in her tweet.  

“Oh wow!” she remarked, reiterating that it’s one of her favorite pastries.

Dyan noted that R’Bonney has been eating ensaymada for the past two years.

R’Bonney represented the USA in the recently concluded Miss Universe pageant and is the first Filipino-American to win the crown. Prior to joining Miss Universe, she represented the state of Texas in the Miss USA pageant.

She previously said that the support of the Filipinos helped her win the much-coveted crown.

"Filipinos love pageantry. To be half-Filipino, I feel like that helped me feel the energy in the crowd. The support is everything. I feel blessed. As the first Filipino-American Miss Universe, I can now be a voice, a larger voice for other girls and just show them that you need to embrace who you are. It’s so important. Embrace what makes you different," she said.
