Parokya ni Edgar frontman Chito Miranda took to social media to reminisce about the time he met singer-songwriter Gary Valenciano more than three decades ago. The singer recalled how much of a fan he was even before he personally met the veteran OPM artist.

Chito became Gary’s nephew after the latter his wife, Angeli Pangilinan. Gary is also the godfather to the singer’s marriage with actress Neri Naig.

The OPM rock star shared how he was “instantly hooked” on Gary’s music after hearing the soundtrack of the 1980’s film, Bagets. Chito shared that he couldn’t believe he would also get acquainted with the OPM singer a year after he first listened to him.

“I was 9 when I personally met him for the 1st time at a family reunion. Sir Gary was there because he and my Aunt Angeli got married...so he became my uncle. I was super starstruck and kept following him around asking stupid questions like ‘Tito! How'd you come up with this dance step?,’” he recalled.

The 46-year-old singer shared that he always felt lucky whenever his band would get the opportunity to perform with Mr. Pure Energy whether it be the ASAP stage or live events.

Chito happily shared with his followers how he and Gary collaborated on an original song they both prepared with the help of music producer Jonathan Manalo. He added that even if they have seen each other multiple times over the course of their respective careers, this would be the first time they would ever make music together.

“Pero sa tagal tagal namin magkasama, ngayon lang kami nagka-roon ng legit na collab on an original song...tapos pinerform pa namin ng live!!! Ilang buwan naming tinutukan ito, and with the help of our friend @jonathanmanalo, we were able to come up with a beautiful song about love,” he said.

“Thanks Tito @garyvalenciano for giving me the opportunity na gumawa ng kanta kasama mo, at iperform yung song para mga tao that we wrote the song for. Excited na ko na mapanood ng lahat yung ginawa natin,” he added.

The 58-year-old singer-songwriter was also glad that he had the chance to work alongside his nephew on a new project.

“Really happy we’ve been able to do all this @chitomirandajr.❤️See you for the next show…or the next duet. God bless you and the family even more,” Gary wrote.

Chito and Gary were both judges on the second season of Idol Philippines alongside Regine Velasquez and Moira dela Torre.
