Historians Ambeth Ocampo and Xiao Chua have spoken after Ella Cruz’s claims of equating history with gossip made rounds online.

It can be recalled that Ella drew flak online after she claimed that both history and gossip are filtered and biased.

“History is like tsismis. It is filtered and dagdag na rin, so, hindi natin alam what is the real history. Andoon na iyong idea, pero may mga bias talaga. As long as we’re here, alive at may kanya-kanyang opinion, I respect everyone’s opinion,” she said during an interview with TV5’s MJ Marfori.

Ella will play the role of Irene Marcos in Darryl Yap’s upcoming film Maid in Malacañang.

The supposed drama-comedy film will follow the story of the Marcos family in their last 72 hours in the Palace before their exile to Hawaii following the People Power Revolution in 1986.

One of those who have spoken up is historian Ambeth Ocampo whose Facebook post has since gone viral. He said history is truthful, unlike Ella’s claims.

“History may have bias but it is based on fact, not opinion. Real History is about Truth, not lies, not fiction,” Ambeth said.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News’ Tony Velasquez for the show On The Spot on Teleradyo, Xiao Chua said that it is backed by evidence.

“History can also be opinion. Pwede ‘yun, pero may nakakalimutan. At ‘yung nakalimutan, ‘yun ‘yung pinaka-importante. Ano ‘yun? ‘Yun ‘yung metodo. Method,” Xiao said.

“And because history is evidence-based, that’s why hindi puwedeng tsismis. Kapag na-verify na ‘yung tsismis, hindi na siya tsismis. Ganon ho ‘yon. So ‘yung ginagawang metodo, ‘yun po ‘yung verification,” he added.

Other cast members of Maid in Malacañang include Cesar Montano (Ferdinand Marcos Sr.), Diego Loyzaga (Ferdinand “Bongbong” Romualdez Marcos Jr.), Ruffa Gutierrez (Imelda Marcos), and Cristine Reyes (Imee Marcos).
