Before working together on the teleserye Marry Me, Marry You, Paulo Avelino said he and Janine Gutierrez were actually first paired together more than two years ago on the romantic drama film Ngayon Kaya which will finally be shown in theaters starting June 22.

In the film, Paulo plays the role of shy working student Harold who becomes friends with a rich girl in school named AM (played by Janine). The two form a bond that is threatened once Harold pursues his plans to work abroad.

“Actually pag-lock-in nga mas nagkakausap kami kasi halos araw-araw kayo sa set. Pag break wala rin akong makakasama kundi sila. Sabay sabay din kumain lahat. Yung biyahe abroad parang less pa kami nagkikita more than sa lock-in (laughs),” he shared during the special press screening of Ngayon Kaya last June 2.

After their series ended, the two also got to spend time abroad as part of Ogie Alcasid’s concert tour in the US earlier this year. Fans of their love team “Paunine” were also hoping that something was developing between the two after seeing them post candid shots of each other while spending time together in New York. Paulo said there is no special meaning to those posts.

Pero grabe, ngayon ko lang nalaman na first time ni kuya Ogie (Alcasid) mag-concert ng solo, na siya yung headliner at sobrang sulit. Napakagaling. Parang kang nanunuod ng comedy show at pangalawa, naririnig mo pa yung mga kanta na kinalakihan mo. Ang dami pala niyang nasulat na kanta na ngayon ko lang na-realize na siya pala yung nagsulat,” he explained.

“Nag-e-enjoy naman kaming magkatrabaho at sana magkatrabaho ulit kami. At kanya kanyang project muna. May gagawin si Janine na bagong project kasama si Zanjoe (Marudo) sa ABS-CBN. Ako naman babalik muna ako sa pagiging tambay ko (laughs),” he added.
