As part of the cast of the sexy thriller Silip Sa Apoy, Sid Lucero admitted the film’s central theme of domestic abuse was what drew him to the project and accept the role of Angeli Khang’s violent and jealous husband.

“It’s a film that centers around all sorts of abuse that happens inside a marriage which makes it a little bit more complicated to deal with. But the point is, a lot of people are going through this. This is a reality. This is worse in some countries. It’s really bad here and I think what’s making it bad is that we’re not really aware of the options that we have. In fact, sometimes it feels like you have nowhere else to go. Sometimes yung pinaka-nag-a-abuse sa ‘yo yun yung pinaka kinakapitan mo kasi wala ka talagang ibang pupuntahan.

“For me, this movie is my way to bring awareness. It’s an avenue to be able to talk about things like this. So that if people listen and people hear it, then at least maybe somehow I was able to do something good for other people. That’s why I did this film and I hope they get that from just watching it even if it’s just entertainment,” he said.

For his role, Sid said tapping into his painful past helped him play a dark character role more easily.

“I’ve experienced this. I grew up in a house that was really violent when I was younger. And those things stick. I think we all have at some level and sometimes it subjective na wala namang nangyayari but you kind of feel abused? And then you grow up and you realize nothing happened. I experienced it in my home when I was growing up with my dad. He had issues and it came out. Of course it affected the marriage and us the kids.

I’m also a Filipino and I live in a country where we should be getting more than we deserve which means I’m surrounded by people who abuse their power. The abuse goes on and on. It’s just how we go by the day, ‘di ba?” he admitted.

“I had a dark past. I was violent and I was into drugs and then that stopped. And then in the middle of my career I kind of fell back into it and then I let my ego swallow me up basically. And then I spent the last nine years trying to get myself back together. I think I’m doing okay (laughs),” he said.
