As part of the cast of the latest iWantTFC original BL series Love Beneath the Stars, actor Victor Silayan said that his role as the basketball coach of Keann Johnson’s character in the six-episode series was a good fit for him both on and off screen.

“I’m actually a good guy in this story kasi I’m actually a father figure kay Keann so I give him advice. Compared sa mga past roles na ginagawa ko, it’s an interesting one. And I’m super grateful to be a part of this show especially na kailangan lumevel lahat ng mga characters and it’s so nice to be working with people na coming from the theater world. It’s always an honor and a pleasure to be working with people coming from the theater world,” he said.

As part of a Boys’ Love series, Victor said he also hopes that through the show, standards in society could also be improved like the problem of toxic masculinity.

“Back in the days kasi the gold standard of men should be dapat masculado talaga, balbas sarado, tapos hindi ka puwedeng mahina. As soon as makita yan ng mga tao, diyan na nagsisimula yun toxic masculinity eh. But again, it’s a new era and we’re living in a time where it’s okay to be soft. We welcome that. Who wants to be bullied? I hate bullies. I will bully that bully. I’m that type of person and it’s respect at the end of the day. Tao pa rin yung sa kabila.

“In the showbiz industry and in the modeling industry, I’ve been immersed with the whole community and we’re all human beings, we all share the same human values and it’s sad na may snippets pa rin ng what used to be the standard of a male figure. And it’s good that we are changing our perspectives about this. Not totally but it’s a huge step already and this show is on that side showing na hey it’s okay to stand up for who you are and what you believe in because we’re all human beings at the end of the day.

Some day sana ma-tackle din yung bakit natatakot yung madaming tao na i-express yung sarili nila. Sana mabigyan boses din yung madami lalong lalo na even straight guys, na huwag kayong matakot i-express feeling niyo, huwag kayo matakot maglambing sa tropa niyo, to say I love you. Kasi nararamdaman niyo naman yun eh. Kung nararamdaman niy ipakita niyo at sabihin niyo,” he explained.

“Growing up I’ve seen a lot of it. Siguro elementary ako nakikita ko maraming mga classmates ko ang na-bu-bully because may soft side sila. I’ve realized na may soft side din talaga yung mga lalake. It’s just that yung culture natin as a Filiipino napalaki tayo na kailangan yung lalake ganito, kailangan yung lalake makisig, kailangan yung lalake hindi malambot. Pero I’ve realized that we’re just human beings. Marami pa tayong hindi na-di-discover na mga personalities sa sarili natin.

“The message is to not be afraid to come out, to be true and honest with yourself. Self-respect nga. And to also respect the school rules. The rules are there for a reason. But also hopefully schools of today would adjust and recognize it and hopefully something is done in support of this issue to promote kindness and not to tolerate bullying and to love one another despite the preference. I think that would be my message.

I’d love to support what he or she is up with,” he shared.
