Joaquin Valdes starts work on his first West End musical ‘Heathers’

After being part of the musical Fanny and Stella, the first production to open since London’s first lockdown last year, Joaquin Pedro Valdes has started working on his first West End production this year in the musical Heathers which starts its run on June 23 in London. in Heathers: The Musical, Joaquin will be the first Asian actor to be cast in the role of Ram Sweeney, the attractive and sporty jock. The musical first ran in the West End in 2018 and is a rock musical originally based on the 1989 film of the same name starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater.

Last June 8 Joaquin’s London-based talent agency BBA Management gave an update on their Instagram account about the first day of work on the musical. They wrote, “It’s 1st day of rehearsals for the West End company of @heathersmusical! Sending our love to Choreographer and Associate Director, GARY LLOYD (@garylloydme), MADISON SWAN (@madisonlgswan) who is playing Martha, JOAQUIN PEDRO VALDES (@joaquinpedrovaldes) who is playing Ram Sweeney and CHRISTOPHER PARKINSON (@chrisjparkinson) who appears in the Ensemble and covers Kurt and Kurt’s dad.”

The multi-talented Pinoy also shared photos on his Instagram Stories about his first day of work on Heathers: The Musical. Now based in the UK with his wife Agee for the past three years, Joaquin became part of the touring cast of major productions like Miss Saigon and The King and I. Before leaving the country and making his mark abroad, Joaquin was an actor for TV, stage, and film, as well as director for films like Dagim and Bulong.
