As part of the newly launched members of the Gold Squad Plus, teen singer Sam Cruz said she almost couldn’t believe it when her mother Sunshine Cruz first broke the news to her.

“It was very surreal because when I found out my mom just talked to me about it. Sabi niya, ‘Sam do you want to join? They’re asking you to join Squad Plus?’ And I was like, ‘Is this real? Sure.’ I was really excited kasi I’ll be able to actually work and be a part-time student at the same time. I just want to meet a lot of new people and new experiences and learn a lot of things while doing this and until now I’m still so grateful and thankful for it,” she shared during The Squad Plus media launch held last April 19.

As the second daughter of Cesar Montano and Sunshine Cruz, Sam said she inherited characteristics from both parents. “When it comes to looks, I’m a mix of both. that’s what they say. Pero when it comes to attitude probably my mom because super close kami ng mom ko and we always spend time together. I’m starting to act a lot like her na rin (laughs),” she said.

After her mom Sunshine revealed through social media that she had tested positive for COVID-19, Sam admitted it was a challenging time for their entire family.

“We got scared because she got this from work and we didn’t know how to react at first. We just told mom that [we] hope she gets better soon and that the symptoms aren’t that bad. Once we found out na nagka-COVID siya, we were all very sad about it and we just hoped for the best. Naka-isolate lang siya for almost two weeks tapos to support her and show her our love during this horrible experience, we would text her, call her, Facetime kahit we’re in the same house. We still showed love and support by texting her day and night and she would text us every night, ‘I miss you guys’ na kahit second day pa lang (laughs). We were really excited and we were so happy and thankful to God that she’s recovered na finally. And she’s finally back to work,” she shared.

The new Squad Plus member said that her biggest fear in life right now would be to lose her mom.

“She’s always there. Super supportive and loving lang po. Without them, my family, I wouldn’t know what to do without them because they’ve been there for me all the way. My mom is always there to support me and us three sisters lang po. My mom is super-duper strong and she’s raised us her whole life on her own as a single parent. So, seeing her gone would crush me. That is probably one of my greatest fears,” she said.
