With her parents splitting up when she was still young and her mom finding love again with her stepfather, Pia Wurtzbach said she considers both men as her fathers. “I have my biological father and my stepdad. I love them both equally. With my biological father, he’s always taught me how to be punctual number one and then also the value of money. At such a young age he already taught me how to save, how to open my own bank account, how to check my balance, how to withdraw, how to deposit. Like that’s very important to him. And then also his love for food. Yun yung natutunan ko talaga sa kanya yun. He would spend hours in the kitchen just for a meal na mauubos naman within a few minutes, alam mo yun? But I really appreciate that. Marami kang matututunan, yung patience and creativity sa pagluluto,” she shared.

When it comes to her stepdad, Pia said she appreciates how patient and understanding he was of their initial family situation. “He’s been so patient with our family, given also na medyo financially struggling kami at the beginning but he was so helpful. And also my stepdad has seen it with his own eyes, how I was as a waitress in the UK before tapos ngayon, yung last na nagkita kami yung unveiling ng wax figure ko sa Madame Tussaud’s. So he really cried kasi nakita niya how everything happened and I’m just happy that I make both of them proud in some way. Like my biological father was able to see me win first runner-up sa Binibini pero after nun hindi na niya nakita (Pia’s father died in 2013). Pero at least with my stepdad he was able to see all of it. Equally naman meron na akong na-share with both of them and I guess my message to my stepdad is thank you so much and I’m glad that my mom found her forever,” she said.

The former 2015 Miss Universe said she has learned a lot of valuable things from both her stepdad and biological dad. “There’s really a lot. Magkaiba kasi sila. From my stepdad, his love for music talaga. Growing up with my stepdad and my mom together, lagi silang kumakanta ng mga ‘50s, ‘60s, and mga ‘70s na mga songs. Because yun yung kapanahunan nila, ganyan. And rumaraket kami before. We would go to nursing homes and then sing to them for two hours para meron kaming spending money, ganyan. So I learned a lot of songs from them. Yun yung hanggang ngayon nadadala ko pa rin because when I go to some events and they play the old songs, meron akong pang ice breaker sa mga tao kasi ang dami kong natutunan from them, from my dad talaga,” she said.
