The ‘90s have been a golden era for comedy on Philippine TV and in cinema. Kids and adults alike both enjoyed the wholesome and incomparable wit of some of the most iconic Filipino comedians like the ‘King of Comedy’ Dolphy, Babalu, Redford White, and Carding Castro, just to name a few. Their family-oriented movies remain remarkable and timeless through the years.

That said, let us take a trip down memory lane and relive some of our favorite childhood Pinoy movies.

Home Along Da Riles (The Movie)

Home Along Da Riles was a long-running sitcom of the Kapamilya network. In 1993 and 1997, the show transcended from the small screen to the big screen as it produced Home Along Da Riles 1 and 2. It starred Dolphy, Nova Villa, Babalu, Carding Castro, Smokey Manaloto, Claudine Barretto, and Vandolph, among others.

Haba-baba-doo, Puti-puti-poo

Released in 1998, Haba-baba-doo, Puti-puti-poo starred the late Redford White and Babalu. In the movie, Redford and Babalu became house helpers to a wealthy family with a very strict head servant played by Princess Punzalan. It also featured former young stars Paolo Contis, Camille Prats, Baron Geisler, Emman Abeleda, Serena Dalrymple, Stefano Mori, and Tanya Garcia.

Oki Doki Doc! (The Movie)

Oki Doki Doc! was another long-running TV sitcom that was turned into a movie. Released in 1999, the film starred Aga Muhlach (who played the iconic Doc Aga), Jimmy Santos, Babalu, Agot Isidro, Claudine Barretto, Paolo Contis, and Camille Prats, among others.

Tik Tak Toys…My Kolokotoys

Released in 1999, Tik Tak Toys… My Kolokotoys starred Redford White, Carding Castro and child star Serena Dalrymple. It told the story of a rich tycoon’s naughty daughter, played by Serena, who likes to give Redford and Carding, who work for them, a hard time.

Kung Ayaw Mo, Huwag Mo

In this 1998 movie, viewers saw a funny Maricel Soriano who played a doting yet conservative sister to her younger sis Jolina Magdangal. A romantic-comedy movie fit for all, it also starred William Martinez and Marvin Agustin.

I Do, I Die D’yos Ko Day!

Edu Manzano, Agot Isidro, Babalu and Redford White starred in this family film of 1997. Certain clips from this movie were still going around online, proving that it was a memorable Redford-Babalu project.

Biyudo si Daddy, Biyuda si Mommy

Star Cinema collaborated with MZet Productions for this hilarious 1997 movie starring ‘Bossing’ Vic Sotto and Coney Reyes. It also starred Patrick Garcia, Anna Larrucea, CJ Ramos, and Allyzon Lualhati.

Ang TV (The Movie): The Adarna Adventure

From being a kids-oriented variety show of the ‘90s, Ang TV was eventually translated to a full-length movie on the big screen in 1996. It featured an all-star ensemble, which included Jolina Magdangal, Gio Alvarez, and former child stars Angelica Panganiban, Camille Prats, Paolo Contis, Patrick Garcia, Anna Larrucea, CJ Ramos, and Stefano Mori, among others.

‘Tong Tatlong Tatay Kong Pakitong-Kitong

Starring Redford White, Babalu, Bonel Balingit, and Serena Dalrymple, ‘Tong Tatlong Tatay Kong Pakitong-Kitong was released in 1998. It told the story of Jingle, played by Serena, an orphan who was placed under the care of her three foster fathers, played by Redford, Babalu and Bonel.

Tar-San

Inspired by the original concept of Tarzan, Tar and San, which were played by Redford White and Carding Castro respectively, were raised in the jungle. When explorers discover that they are related to a rich tycoon in the city, they are trained to be able to adapt to the ways of the city life. It also starred Bernadette Alyson, Carlos Agassi, Baron Geisler, Ramon Christopher, and Jodi Sta. Maria, among others. The movie was released in 1999.
