041916-DominicOchoa_PUSH.jpgOn Tonight With Boy Abunda, actor Dominic Ochoa revealed why he hesitated to join show business when host and talent manager Boy Abunda offered him an opportunity then.

“It was my father. I think he will be against it and true enough, when I was launched sa ASAP, he really got mad. He got pissed and he didn’t talk to me for four months. So right after the ASAP launch, it was a four-month dilemma between me and my dad,” he narrated.

Sharing what appeased his father, Dominic said that when ABS-CBN gave him three shows during that time. “Ang bilin niya lang sa’kin, as long as you don’t take drugs, okay. We’re good,” he said.

Boy also shared that he first brought Dominic to another TV station where he made one show. “Doon ako naniwala talaga it was the right place, the right time. Ayon, great timing. They were looking for a third party for Judy Ann Santos,” he recalled.

When asked how Dominic has changed over the course of 20 years, the actor said that nothing has changed. When asked what showbiz has done to him, Dominic answered, “Siguro ito. Where I am right now. Kumbaga, pinagtrabahuhan natin ito. It doesn’t really matter whether I’m given a lead role or nothing. I guess being in ABS, being in a company for 20 years, oo (namuhunan ako ng hard work).”

Did he ever tell himself that he deserves more? “I told myself from the very start, alam mo naman eh. Although siyempre, you’re dreaming pa rin na to be there. To be in that stage where the others are, no? But siguro I’ve accepted the fact already when I started this business na parang nandoon na ako sa level na ‘yun. Character, third-party, I’ve accepted that. Anything more than that, basically bonus na lang so hindi mahirap para sa akin ‘pag binigyan niyo ko ng ganito or nawala sa akin ‘yan. At never ko rin inisip, tito Boy kasi gaya ng sinasabi ko sa mga baguhan din, whether isang sequence lang ‘yan or ikaw ang bida, kailangan mong panindigan. Kailangan mong ipakita ang 200% ng trabaho mo,” he said.

Now, Dominic is set to lead the newest fantasy TV series entitled My Super D. Dominic shared that it was very wonderful Christmas gift for him last year when he was informed of the project.

“It’s all about isang tatay na ginagagawa ang lahat para sa pamilya at sa anak. Naturingang isa akong tatay ngayon, ginagawa ko lahat para sa aking pamilya at sa aking anak. So I got so excited about it plus, ‘yung mensahe after nilang i-discuss sa akin ‘yung istorya. Hindi mo kailangan maging superhero. Basta ang kailangan mo lang, kung pinaglalaban mo ang mahal mo sa buhay, kaya mong labanan ang lahat,” he said.

Joining Dominic on the show is child star Marco Masa (Nathaniel) whom he described as fantastic and longtime friend Marvin Agustin. He said, “I’m very thankful kay Marvin, supportive ‘yung kaibigan nating iyon. After 10 years. Actually, the last time I’ve worked with him was 2004, Whattamen nga. Ngayon, nagbabalik ulit kami, magkaibigan.”
