During her homecoming interview, Pia got a little emotional when she talked about her late German father, Klaus Uwe Wurtzbach, whom she had hoped to share her success with.

Siguro na [sana] mas nakapagusap kami ng biological father ko,” she said.

“Although meron naman akong way na ma-contact siya parang nahirapan ako kasi may family narin siya,” Pia continued.

Pia said, “Because he passed away two years ago and then I won now, I feel like parang sana nakita niya ito.”

According to Pia, her father instilled in her a very important lesson that she still carries.

'Although I was a little girl, he [Klaus Uwe] spoiled me with Barbies and treated me like a princess but when it's time to get serious, he's really serious. ...That's a quality that I carry up to now,' she said.

What was funny though, according to her, was even in her father’s absence he seemed to have made sure that his “presence” was felt in her journey to the crown.

'When I signed my contract for Miss Universe, the last page, I asked that lawyer from Binibining Pilipinas, 'What day is it today?' And he said, 'August 24,' which happened to be my dad's birthday. And I teared up because I was thinking that maybe this was his gift for me,' she explained.

The 26-year-old titleholder continued, 'Or maybe his apology that he wasn't around. I took it as something positive. I would like to think that he's still around.'

On the other hand, Pia shared that she got her funny side from her mother, Cheryl Alonzo Tyndall.
