080113-kimxi_main.jpgHaving done several roles on TV and in films, it was a challenge for Kim Chiu to showcase a different side in Star Cinema’s latest offering, Bakit Hindi Ka Crush Ng Crush Mo. Under the direction of Joyce Bernal, Kim was able to deliver a different brand of humor that is gutsy, casual, and sometimes even bordering on kanto-girl type, which is very apt for her character Sandy who was born and raised in a rough neighborhood. Coupled with her comic timing, vitality, and screen presence, Kim succeeds in portraying her character well.

While there’s room for improvement when it comes to Xian Lim’s acting prowess, the certified Kapamilya heartthrob showed that he’s one of the most promising leading men today. He certainly has the charm and the looks that lots of female audiences go crazy for. It’s only his first full-length film and it would be interesting to see him grow as an artist and reach his full potential in his next projects.

Nevertheless, he and Kim make a perfect tandem as they bring out the best in each other on screen. Aside from their chemistry as a love team, they surprise the audience with their funny scenes together. One such example would be their first meeting at the office and an out-of-town visit to a potential record artist. Without giving too many details about the movie, they give off that light and happy vibe that made the whole movie experience worth it.

The film adaptation of the self-help book Bakit Hindi Ka Crush Ng Crush Mo by Ramon Bautista tells the story of Sandy, an unattractive girl who gets dumped by her jerk of an ex-boyfriend. A model employee of a recording company, she almost threw away her career due to depression if not for the interference of Alex, the dashing scion to a wealthy family who is entrusted with their faltering record company. He vows to teach her the art of flirting so she could later exact vengeance on her ex in exchange for her help in managing their business.

Ramon Bautista, author of the said book and self-confessed internet action star, provided lots of comic relief as he played the narrator of the film. His insights about the art of letting go after a painful heartbreak and tips about attracting the opposite sex are entertaining and relatable to audiences of all ages. No wonder he’s known among netizens who subscribed to his videos about “tales from the friend zone” among others.

Be sure to watch this feel-good film Bakit Hindi Ka Crush Ng Crush Mo under Star Cinema, now showing in theaters nationwide.
