MANILA – It was a double celebration for two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo at the Philippine Sportswriters Association Awards Night in Diamond Hotel Manila on Monday. He was honored anew with the PSA Athlete of the Year Award, alongside Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala. Yulo first earned the same recognition in 2024 -- after his golden heroics in the Paris Olympics -- while this is the first for Eala. <div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/othersports/2026/1/16/alex-eala-carlos-yulo-to-be-recognized-psa-co-athletes-of-the-year-1450">READ: Alex Eala, Carlos Yulo to be recognized PSA co-Athletes of the Year</a></div>But this year, the award was more special as he received it on his birthday. At 26 years old, Yulo remains humble and is grateful to be recognized for his achievements. &quot;Naka-inspire po na mas galingan, mas magsikap sa mga susunod na tourney po,&quot; he said after the awarding ceremony.&quot;I’m just really happy and proud. Dumadami na po yung mga Pilipino po na kayang makipagsabayan sa international [stage]. Gusto ko po na dumami pa tayo at ipakita na in yung galing ng Pilipino sa sports,&quot; Yulo shared. Being in the same hall as his fellow sports achievers, Yulo said it was great to see more Filipino athletes being recognized. When asked about his advice to aspiring gymnasts, Yulo said it starts with being true to yourself. &quot;Ako palagi kong sinasabi, kilalanin mo yung sarili mo. Kapag nahanap mo yung sarili mo, alam mo kung ano gusto mong gawin. Focus ka doon,&quot; Yulo shared. &quot;Huwag kayo maniwala sa sinasabi ng mga tao. As long as hindi ka nakakatapak ng ibang tao and may respeto kayo sa coaches at athletes. Keep pushing. Importante maniwala ka sa sarili mo,&quot; he added. Yulo is now gearing up for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, the next goal in his already illustrious career. &quot;Marami pa po, hindi pa po natatapos journey ko. Siyempre yung LA Olympics. And after that, hindi pa po natin alam kung magtutuloy po ako. Pero I can see na kaya kong tagusin yung 2032. Pero I’m just really praying na maging safe ako palagi sa mga competitions ko and trainings po,&quot; he said. But before that, Yulo will see action in several other competitions, including the 2026 Asian Games and World Championships.
